The Sacred Art of Hawaiian Hula - Bring Hawai'i to Your Hips & Aloha to Your Lips to Let Your Inner Self Flow. Experience a flowing and sacred dancing meditation and the fun and joy of being the radiant and empowered goddess that you are. This ancient storytelling form is also an energy dance similar to the Chinese Tai Chi. No dance experience is necessary. Birth Dancing Classes Thursdays, 6-7:15 pm at the French Broad Food Coop - For all interested women - Learn the ancient and empowering technique of dancing to ease all phases of the birth journey (conception, pregnancy, labor and recovery). Birth dancing is most likely the first form of childbirth preparation and labor technique - it has lasted tens of thousands of years because it is so effective in easing birth. Cost is $72 for 6 weeks or $15 drop-in. Birth Dancing Workshop will be held 10am-1pm Saturday, Sept 6, at Yellow Sun Farm in Black Mountain. Hip Hop, Timbaland Style - If you’ve listened to popular Hip Hop music over the last 18 years, than without a doubt, you have some love for Timbaland. In this series, we’ll be all Timbaland, all the time. Every song played in this class will have his magic touch somewhere on it. Following an energetic warm-up and abs work, we’ll work on a choreographed piece that will go along with any of his songs. This class is for intermediate dancers, and will move at a brisk pace. Paul Taylor Dance Company performs 8pm Friday and Saturday, October 17 & 18 at Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. Choreographer Paul Taylor is the last living member of the pantheon that created modern dance. Taylor, whom Martha Graham famously referred to as the “naughty boy” of dance, continues as he has since 1954 to win public and critical acclaim for the vibrancy, relevance and power of his creations. A chance to experiment with and explore the underlying principals of contact improvisation through an array of improvisational structures, games and play.
