The DanceAsheville website is updated most weekday mornings, and our email newsletter usually goes out on Friday mornings. The newsletter is free. Belly Dance for Fun & Fitness with Taisir 10:30-11:30am Saturdays at Studio Zahiya on N Lexington Ave (downtown Asheville, orange door next to Flipside) - resumes Apr 19. Have fun, express yourself and exercise while learning the movements of Middle Eastern dance! This class is based on Taisir's eclectic belly dance style and choreography after performing and teaching for the past 8 years. Roots of Belly Dance Series with Michelle Dionne - Free Trial Class! A meditative, fun practice within sacred space to learn the fundamental movements, experience self-healing, connect with the Divine, with sisters and explore our own unique style of belly dance. Jazzy Showgirl Booty Camp Series - This class includes a warm-up that will stretch, strengthen, and tone all the way up and down your body, followed by a short burlesque-style routine open to all levels of dancers, including brand new ones. At the end of class, we’ll have a short sexy-abs workout, and a final deep stretch. No previous Jazzy Showgirl experience necessary, and open to beginning dancers. Please note: This class serves as a pre-requisite for the Les Femmes Mystique student troupe. Troupe is currently full, but to be considered for future open spots, you must be taking this class. Moving into Awareness: A Support & Movement Group for Women 9:30-11:30am Mondays Apr 28 - June 2 at Nourishing Life Center of Health, 207 Weaverville Hwy in Asheville. “Bling It On”: Glam Rock/Pop Performance Dance Class - An upcoming special event is all about bling, so we are going to glam it up with some 70s rock and roll moves that are all covered in glitter and gold. Don’t forget the big hair! Over six weeks, Diana and I will trade off teaching simple choreography that will become the dance piece performed at a special event in June. We will also have a dress rehearsal the night before the performance (June 6th). We ask that everyone who signs up has some dance experience. First time performers are okay! Dirty Dancing on the Big Screen at Tryon Fine Arts Center - The Tryon Fine Arts Center in Tryon will present a screening of "Dirty Dancing" on Tuesday, May 6 at 7pm. The movie will be preceded by a light hearted dance competition starting at 5:30pm in the theater's lobby. Refreshments will be available for the event and prizes of Fall Series season tickets will be presented to the winning dancers. The judges of the competition will be the former Broadway dancer Dallas Johann and his wife, Broadway photographer Susan Johann. Tickets are $6, available in the TFAC lobby or through the website. The Asheville Ballet Blue Ridge Dance Camp will be held August 3-8 - applications are now being accepted. The resident summer intensive offers daily classes in Ballet, Pointe, Repertoire, Modern, Jazz, Choreography, and Dance History, with additional special workshops. Serious students ages 10-18 can pursue their training in a supportive, fun environment. The professional staff insures proper instruction at appropriate levels. Traditional Hawaiian Hula Classes - Bring Hawai'i to your Hips & Aloha to Your Lips through the Dance of the Heart! With its roots going back to prehistoric times, this graceful and flowing dance is ancient storytelling and the living history of the Hawaiian people, telling their myths and legends, stories and values through songs, chants and music accompanied by dance with descriptive hand gestures and rhythmic movement of feet and hips.
